A Baby, A Remodel and a Trip To Disney World
The excitement continues around these parts
The excitement continues around these parts
There's a chill in the air, the smell of bonfire surrounds one on nighttime walks and the leafs are starting to show colors. You all know what that means fall is upon us and the summer has packed its bags for the southern hemisphere. With summer coming to a close I realize I have not been posting much of anything here and boy oh boy has there been some exciting changes around the Bird Estate.
The biggest news of the summer is we are expecting a baby Bird this February!! Both Jason and I are super excited to be having our first kiddo this winter. There has been lots of reading and realizations along the lines of "holy crap where are we going to store child size dishes?"
With a new baby coming we decided it was time to tackle a remodeling project we had been thinking about for a while - creating a open floor plan in the upstairs of our house. So it was kind of a whirl wind summer between me being in my first trimester and having our house completely upside down. The remodel effected the entire upstairs so we had to move all of our possessions into the lower level of our house. Which meant we lived liked hoarders for pretty much the entire summer. I'm not kindling we had a path thru stacks and stacks of boxes and furniture to get the couch. Upstairs was completely blown up and put back together again. We took out a large wall that divided the house and took a back bedroom and made it into a family room completely reconfiguring the upstairs of our house.
The payoff was well worth the chaos. We now have a beautiful open floor plan that has a gorgeous fireplace that I have feeling we will be putting to good use this fall and winter. Needless to say I am so glad to have gotten it done before the baby came!
Before the Remodel, During and After!
With the busy holiday season for Jason at work coming up and me starting to feel a little bit more like myself again we decided we should get in a trip to end the summer. We had originally planned on going to Washington D.C. this fall but with me being pregnant and not being sure how I was going to feel we thought it might be best to take a more easy going trip. So with that in mind we landed on a trip down to Florida. We still had some time left on our annual passes for Disney World and I figured I already know where all the bathrooms are so to Disney we went!
Because Jason and I own a vacation club membership (similar to a timeshare property) we have stayed at several different properties over the years near Disney World. This trip we ended up booking the week at Orange Lake Resort. This resort is huge and we stayed in the River Island Signature Collection area. We really liked the unit very nice furniture and finishes. It's located right on the line of Disney property next to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Because our unit was on the end of the building we had a great view of all of Disney World. We could see Mount Everest, the Tree of Life, the Tower of Terror, the Ears Water Tower and the Swan and Dolphin. At night we could see all of the different firework shows which was really fun because by about 9 o'clock at night I want to be in my p.j.'s now days. So most nights we enjoyed dessert and fireworks from the balacony. (See the picture at the top of this post. I took that while watching the sunsrise one morning.)
Like I mentioned before the resort was huge it had 3 different golf courses, 2 mini golf course, serval restaurants and a awesome pool. In fact I would say this is the best pool we have had at a resort in-so-far. There was a huge lazy river, 2 water slides and 2 different zero-entry pool areas connected to the lazy river. Because we were staying in a Signature Collection unit we had a a private pool deck area full of fabulous double chaise lounges and umbrellas. We took advantage of this almost everyday of our trip. It was so relaxing to lay around and read and then take a trip around the lazy river when we got too warm. And boy was it warm! The temperature was in the mid 90's everyday quite the shock to come back to 60's here.
Dole Whip of course, Part of the lazy river at Orange Lake Resort, Baby is ready for PhilarMagic, Walking thru the Castle at Night, Sunset over the Magic Kingdom from the Califronia Grill
We did of course go into the parks which is always fun. It was actually less crowded then we thought it would be. I couldn't do a lot of our favorite rides such as Tower of Terror and Space Mountain but I still enjoyed myself. There are actually quite a few attractions that you can do at Disney World when pregnant. So we enjoyed the more tame attractions and well Jason did some of the more adventous rides by himself. Part of the fun of a Disney Trip for us is just being in the environment and people watching which we did a lot of.
We also had some fabulous meals while there. Our new favorite find of the trip was Il Mulino New York Trattoria at the Swan & Dolphin. The atmosphere was italian bistro and had a good mix of park goers and business people. Although I did take off Minnie Ears while eating ear becuase it didn't seem quite appropriate. They had a nice wine list and Jason enjoyed a tasty glass of pinot from the Russian River Vally, I of course took a few smells. They had a great bread service that included a small plate of salami and roasted eggplant (super delicious). Jason had the Pappardelle and I had the Tortellini Alla Panna. The Tortellni Alla Panna was very good but the Pappardelle was hands down the winner. Here's how you know its good - Jason was only willing to share two bites. We skipped dessert because we were both stuffed although all the desserts we saw at other tables look very good. With this being located off the lobby of the Swan, this is a nice walk or boat ride from Epcot. If your in the mood for italian I would recommend you skip the Italy pavilion restaurants and instead stroll over Il Mulino instead.
Well another adventure is in the books and it was a good one. As always Disney didn't disappoint and I'm sure we will be back at it's gates in the near future but next time we will have a third pair ears along to enjoy the fun.
